Tea Time in Ceylon

This month we travelled to Sri Lanka for creative inspiration. Our trip took us from the tea plantations of Kandy to the UNESCO world heritage site of the Galle fort.

Arriving in Sri Lanka reminded us of being whisked away back in time more than 60 years ago, before WWII and during the time of colonialists.

Our first stop was a stay at the "Lavender House" located in Pussellawa, outside of Kandy. Built in the 1890's the house is located on the Hellbode tea estate and is a former tea planter's residence. It is one of the few tea estate bungalows designed by the British with the original shingle roof still intact.

The house is furnished with traditional English pieces giving you the feeling of being in your own private home. Looking at the photo's below you would think you were staying in an estate in England. Classical furniture pieces never date and as you can see can look great in any part of the world. They work just as well today as they would have almost 60 years ago.

More will be revealed about the trip in my next blog. Toodeloo for now....
